On 29 October 2018, YG released a statement on plans of debuting a new boy group in the year 2019. The program called 'YG Treasure Box' has been created to select members for the new YG boy group. With a history of YG's boy group being formed through YG's own survival program, this would not surprise fans of YG.
An example was 'BIGBANG TV' that was aired in 2006, the first-ever attempt by YG on a survival program and also the first-ever in Korea. The term ‘YG Treasure Box’ refers to the fans that have often complained that the YG artists get locked up in a treasure box after making one comeback. The term is usually seen as a negative one and has been publicly mentioned through the press as well. The program will be set to reveal all the male trainees in YG. Additionally, the viewers' are able to be a part of the program as their reviews and selections will be taken into consideration to the selection criteria. The shooting for the program has already begun and the program is expected to be premiering on the 16th of November. YG has made this program more interactive and accessible to the global fans as it is now more focused on global market expansion and promotion through internet platforms such as V Live and YouTube even prior to the debut of the program. In addition, the program will be made available through TV broadcasts for the local viewers’ convenience. There are 29 trainees in YG who will be revealed through ‘YG Treasure Box’. Their ages consist from 14 to 19. The competition is high compared to Mix&Match. Check out the 29 trainees below!
