Celeb Five is back with their new single, “Shutter”, after their debut track “I Wanna Be a Celeb” but now as a quartet.

The quartet now comprises of 4 female entertainers, Song Eun Yi, Shin Bong Sun, Ahn Young Mi and Kim Shin Young. Don’t underestimate them thinking they only guest on shows as emcees or entertainers to bring laughter for viewers. Their debut music video “I Wanna Be a Celeb” was first released as just a funky mimic of the Korean pop industry and to prove that though they might not be mainstream idols, they are able to sing and dance equally well through hard work and practice.

Such efforts were not proven futile at all when the track took Korea by storm that even groups like SEVENTEEN and NCT U did their own renditions.

This time, their funky music video is based on the theme of music shows of the 90s. We see lower resolution graphics, slanted camera angles and simple stage design as compared to their relatively elaborate visuals in their previous music video.

Veteran South Korean actor Lee Deok-hwa also started the music video by annoucning the various female acts that are making a comeback on the mock broadcast, which includes TWICE, MAMAMOO, Red Velvet as well as Jennie from BLACKPINK.

If we were to look at the scrolling words at the start of the music video, we realise that the average age of the ladies is 39.25 years old, and them dancing to such a demanding choreography is indeed a feat. It was also shown that if were to combine their experience in the broadcast industry, they’ll add up to roughly 70 years.

What sets them apart? They perform with no microphones and no shoes on (lip-syncing the whole performance). Despite that, they appear in red suits like those of the British royal guards. In this music video, we hear them repeating the onomatopoeic sounds of camera clicks, to express their amazement and love for what they are doing. The retro song also features a large use of synths, which is a representation of Korean music in the 90s.

We hear them also say that they love photo zones at the end of the chorus! These ladies add a fresh touch to usual music videos and offer a new concept with reference to music shows in the 90s. What do you think of their new track?
